OMG!!!

Saved is a new off-broadway musical which will be presented at Playwright's Horizons. It's based on the movie with the same title about social and spiritual pressures in a Christian school.....you know the movie with Jena Malone and Mandy Moore. I really liked that movie. Dark humor but very entertaining.

It will play on a limited engagement from May 9 (previews) until June 22. Opening will be June 3. They have just announced the casting for this musical and quoting playbill.com:

Joining the previously announced Tony Award nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Les Misérables) for the May 9 launch at PH's Mainstage Theater Off-Broadway will be Tony Award nominee John Dossett (Gypsy, Mamma Mia!), Drama Desk Award nominee Julia Murney (The Wild Party, Wicked), Mary Faber (Floyd and Clea Under the Western Sky, Avenue Q), Josh Breckenridge (The Ritz), Juliana Ashley Hansen (national tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie), Curtis Holbrook (Xanadu), Van Hughes (Hairspray), Jason Michael Snow (Pirates of Penzance at Goodspeed), Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal), Emily Walton (national tour of A Christmas Carol) and Daniel Zaitchik (Kimberly Akimbo).

OMG! How exciting she's back onstage! Julia will probably play the role that Mary Louise Parker played in the movie....the mom of Mary (the main character) who had a relationship with the pastor, Pastor Skip. I do think though that she's too young to play Celia Keenan-Bolger's (Mary) mother. Anyway, returning to the topic......what a great cast though!!!!!

Loved the movie. I guess if they're making musicals from every other type of film, this is better than most to mine material from.
