Home For Theatre Geeks

A new book called Theatre Geek is out and I have been meaning to read it. It follows 3 kids through summer at a theatre summer camp called Stagedoor Manor. The book is by Mickey Rapkin and also tells the history of Stagedoor Manor, a performing arts camp in the Catskills and home to budding theatre actors. The camp was established by Carl and Elsie Samuelson in 1976 but it is currently managed by their children Debra and Cindy Samuelson.

Stagedoor Manor has been featured in movies such as Camp and the documentary "Stagedoor" but it is more well known for producing gifted actors. It's well known alumni include Jon Cryer, Lea Michele, Natalie Portman, Zach Braff, Julia Murney, Amy Ryan and Robert Downey, Jr. But more than that, it provides a safe haven where kids can express themselves. Check out the clip and watch those talented campers.
