165 Eaton Place

165 Eaton Place is the famous address of the Bellamy Place, the London row house which is the setting for the original production of Upstairs Downstairs. For the past three Sundays, 165 Eaton Place has again come alive with the new version of a beloved classic presented by Masterpiece Theatre on PBS. Created by actors Eileen Atkins and Jean Marsh, this sequel also features them both.

Jean Marsh who played the role of servant Rose Buck in the orginal series is now an owner of a domestic servant agency. She eventually becomes the housemaid to the Sir Hallam and Lady Agness Holland's household. I found it wonderful that the producers maintained the connection to the original series. What a nice touch.

As with the original series, this version takes a look at the lives of the Hollands and the servants who toil for them. It is a funny and poignant portrait of a household affected by the history of the time and connections between it's inhabitants. Although the series is done, you can still get a chance to see it on dvd.
