International Day of the Girl

Nobel Peace Prize winner Leymah Gbowee:
“I think the International Day of the Girl Child would be a great day for the issues of the girl child to be brought to light for media institutions, for government institutions, and for educational institutions to take the time to think: Girls are the future of the world and we definitely need a day dedicated to their issues."

The girl on the top photo is Malala Yousufzai. She's fourteen years old, and lives in Pakistan. At age 11, she started a blog under the name Gul Makai for BBC Urdu, writing about life under Taliban rule.  After the military drove out the militants in her hometown, the courageous Malala began speaking out for the need for girls' education

On 09 October, she was shot in the head by the Taliban as she boarded a bus to go home for school.  For saying that she should be able to go to school. Thankfully, she survived and surgeons were able to remove the bullet.  She once said: "I don't mind if I have to sit on the floor at school. All I want is education. And I'm afraid of no one."

Please send healing prayers and love to this brave girl.
